On behalf of the 15,000 members I would like to wish everyone a Happy Labor Day. Over this holiday weekend please remember that Labor Day means more than the end of summer. It is a good reminder of the struggles that we have won and the new struggles that we will face.
It is a time to reflect on the working people who brought us Labor Day and the many benefits that we enjoy today because of their efforts. Labor Day is also a time to take stock of where our families, our economy, and our democracy are heading.
We have had many accomplishments this year, including helping New York pass and implement one of the greenest Clean Energy Standards in the country, even as dirty energy interests attacked us. Even with these accomplishments there is still much work to be done, such as raising livable wages, passing paid family leave, keeping working people at the table with global trade deals and continuing to ensure that renewable energy jobs become good jobs as we tackle climate change. We all have much to be thankful for and this Labor Day weekend we pay homage to those workers before us who fought and died for the basic rights we all take for granted. Once the fireworks, parades and barbecues are over, we have to roll up the sleeves and get back to work to continue our never-ending fight of ensuring that all working people have access to good, safe jobs. Happy Labor Day.
