At the end of session, Assembly Energy Chair Mike Cusick introduced A11282, which establishes the New York State renewable reclamation projects program. This legislation was drafted in conjunction with the IBEW to develop renewable energy projects on brownfield sites, dormant electric generating sites and utility owned property.  We will be looking to reintroduce this bill and advance it as part of our legislative agenda.

IBEW leadership met with New York Renews to discuss the 2019 legislative session.  By way of background, NY Renews is a coalition of more than 140 grassroots, state, and national organizations. Their goal is to make New York State the nation's leader in tackling the climate crisis while protecting workers and lifting up communities.

This organization has been advocating for the Climate and Community Investment Act.  As part of that legislation IBEW has included a "just transition" piece that will protect workers in the new green economy.
