Electrical Workers Minority Caucus (EWMC) recently took part in the 30th Annual Leadership Conference in Chicago Illinois. The conference involved workshops, speeches from leaders including IBEW International President Lonnie Stephenson, and a community service project. The conference takes place on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. weekend.

On Saturday February 8th, IBEW Local 1249 will be taking part in the Second Annual Jeremy P. Kearns Memorial Ride. This event honors the life of Jeremy who died in a helicopter accident while on the job.
IBEW 97 recently had 7 members receive either the International's Life Saving Award or Certificates of Recognition for their actions saving the life of a fallen Brother.  Their quick thinking, training, and skill highlighted the great training and work that make our IBEW members the best electrical workers in the world.

Also, IBEW Local 10 is dealing with the closing of the Cayuga Plant. Over the last few years the plant has been operating at a lower capacity as the state moved away from coal. The plant once employed 80 members, but in recent years that number has dropped to 30. Local 10 has successfully negotiated transition benefits and programs for their displaced membership. Local 1049 is surveying their members to explore concerns in preparation for bargaining a contract with the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), which is a group of union electrical contractors that work with the IBEW.  Local 2032 was honored by the Wounded Warriors Outdoor Adventure Group for their continuing support of their Local Wounded Warriors group. The Local also raised $3,000 to help the Meals-On-Wheels program and Local 3 IBEW is launching their diversity campaign this month, click here to check it out.
