Over the weekend of June 19th and 20th, Local 3 IBEW based in New York City, IBEW Local 97 based in Syracuse, IBEW Local 1049 based on Long Island NY, and IBEW 1249 based in Cicero NY took part in the 9th Annual Fallen Lineworker Benefit Rodeo. This yearly event brings lineworkers from around the country together to compete to see who is the best in the trade and raises money to support fallen and injured lineworkers and their families.
IBEW 97, which is based in Syracuse NY, recently had a successful half-day off of their trucks in the gas department to go over important safety measures. A member, Keith Shorney, also received a Life Saving Award for saving the life of a woman trapped in a burning vehicle while on duty.
IBEW 10, located in Binghamton NY, mourned the loss of Don Tuttel a longtime Business Agent and Assistant Business Manager for the local. Tuttel played an instrumental role in getting both the Call Center Bill and the Hot Stick Bill passed.
IBEW 2032, located in Massena NY, recently brought on eight new members who will be working at the the new CEC Energy Zone building in Utica.
IBEW 1049, based in Holtsville NY, recently ratified a new Gas craft contract. The four year deal includes 14.25% raises, paid training classes, bonuses for attending training, and medical and pension improvements. The local also hosted a blood drive to help replenish the supply for the New York Blood Center which days before had declared a blood emergency.
