Myth

New York doesn’t need nuclear energy or energy diversity.

Fact

New York is fortunate to have fuel diversity unlike the New England ISO. Eliminating 31% of our electric generation which nuclear provides is a long term commitment to fossil fuel and its associated price volatility.

Myth

The Clean Energy Standard is a poorly thought out policy.

Fact

Governor Cuomo is taking steps to secure jobs and clean energy. The Governor and the Public Service Commission have balanced New York’s economic and environmental goals, its need for energy diversity, and common sense policy in moving the CES forward.

Myth

Shutting down New York’s nuclear plants will result in minimal job loss

Fact

If New York’s nuclear plants disappear, the state stands to lose 25,000 jobs and thousands of opportunities for building tradesmen and skilled workers who are involved in refueling, maintenance and plant outages.  Additionally, the state would lose $3 billion per year in economic activity and $144 million in state and local taxes.
